SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 10, 2018) - Texas Woman's University softball went 1-1 at the NCAA Division II College Classic Saturday hosted by St. Mary's with a 3-0 loss versus Tarleton State and a 4-1 win against St. Edwards.

A home run by the TexAnns (8-0) in the bottom of the second provided the first run of the day for a 1-0 lead. A pair of strikeouts by
Abby Walker finished off the inning.

Another homer from TSU in the third tallied another two runs for a 3-0 advantage.
Hazel Puempel singled to center field in the top of the sixth to place
Kenzie Wilson in scoring position, but a third out left the runner stranded.

Walker (2-2) took the loss in 2.1 innings with three earned runs on five hits, two strikeouts and a walk.

Morgan McCallum began the game with a single to left field for TWU (6-3) and stole second before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Cheyenne Mahy. A single to left center by Puempel brought McCallum around for a 1-0 Pioneer edge.

TWU had a chance to add another run in the second on a passed ball to place
Melanie Stephens at third, but a groundout ended the inning. The Hilltoppers (0-4) produced an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.

Singles by McCallum and Mahy started off the top of the seventh before a wild pitch advanced the pair a base. An RBI single from Puempel scored McCallum, and an RBI by
Tylia Sylestine brought in Mahy for a 3-1 Pioneer lead.
Jordan Kisselburg then singled to second to add another run from Puempel.

Mahy (3-1) registered the win with one earned run on four hits with a strikeout and a walk, while Walker picked up her second save on the season.

The Pioneers conclude the NCAA Division II College Classic Sunday against Fort Hays at 12:15 p.m. and Cal of Penn at 2:30 p.m.
