DENTON, Texas (April 15, 2018) - Texas Woman's University placed the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning with zero outs against Midwestern State but were unable to capitalize in a 4-3 loss to the Mustangs Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
Â
In the final inning and trailing 4-2,
MaKayla Cook took a walk and advanced to second on an MSU fielding error that allowed
Avery Williams to reach first.
Tara Solomon then walked to load the bases for the Pioneers (22-17, 10-11 LSC) before consecutive Pioneer outs were recorded.
Jordan Kisselburg singled up the middle to score Cook to bring the Pioneers within a run, but a final groundout left the runners stranded for the MSU win.
Â
A Mustang triple in the third led to the first score of the game, but TWU took the lead in the bottom of the frame on a
Tylia Sylestine double down the left field line and a
Hazel Puempel single to center field for a 2-1 Pioneer lead.
Â
MSU (15-20, 9-18 LSC) regained the lead in the fourth on a two-run homer, and added their final run in the fifth on another triple.
Â
Cheyenne Mahy (10-6) recorded a season-high eight strikeouts in the loss.
Â
The Pioneers head to UT Permian Basin for their final LSC road series April 20-21.
