Solomon logs game-high in hits versus No. 18 Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (April 6, 2018) - Tara Solomon of Texas Woman's University registered a game-high three hits as TWU outhit Tarleton State Friday night, but the Pioneers fell 7-1 to the 18th-ranked TexAnns at the TSU Softball Complex.

TWU (21-13, 9-7 LSC) gathered eight hits on the evening compared to seven by the TexAnns (34-7, 14-7 LSC), but the Pioneers managed a trio of errors throughout the contest.

Tylia Sylestine gathered the first Pioneer hit of the evening in the first with a single to center field. Jordan Kisselburg placed a double to right field as Sylestine made her way to third, but a pair of outs finished off the inning.

Solomon singled through the left side in the second before stealing second before advancing to third, but consecutive outs again stalled TWU.

A walk to TSU and a sacrifice bunt placed a TexAnn on second in inning number two, and a single to left field placed runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly to left field then scored the first run of the day.

In the bottom of the third with two outs against Tarleton and a runner on third, a single through the right side brought in another TSU run for a 2-0 advantage. A double to center field allowed another score for a three-run TexAnn edge, and a Tarleton RBI in the fourth upped the lead to 4-0.

Cheyenne Mahy made it to first in the top of the sixth before Makayla Cook subbed in as a pinch runner. A Solomon single to shortstop advanced Cook to second, and a Lindy Kennedy single right field brought in Cook to cut the deficit to 4-1.

A pair of TWU errors in the bottom of the sixth contributed to three Tarleton runs for the 7-1 margin.

Mahy (9-4) took the loss on four earned runs with two strikeouts and five walks.

The Pioneers and TexAnns continue the series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
