Garcia joins TWU Sports Medicine staff

DENTON, Texas (July 26, 2018) - Texas Woman's University's Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine Kris Ring has added Michelle Garcia as an Assistant Athletic Trainer to the staff.

"We are thrilled to have Michelle join our Sports Medicine staff," exclaimed Ring. "She is coming from an outstanding educational and clinical program where all of her preceptors gave her glowing recommendations. Michelle is going to hit the ground running, and I can't wait to see her in action with our teams."

Garcia joins the Pioneers after two years as a Graduate Athletic Training Student at Arkansas where she earned a master's degree in Athletic Training. With the Razorbacks, she worked with women's gymnastics, men's and women's tennis, spirit squad, and football. Garcia also spent time with student-athletes at Shiloh Christian High School and Rogers High School while in Fayetteville.

"I want to thank Ms. Ring and Dr. Stevenson for the opportunity to work with such an incredible Athletics Department here at Texas Woman's University," Garcia acknowledged. "I instantly felt at home with the TWU Athletics Family - not only with their personnel but also their values. I love the environment and philosophy that TWU Sports Medicine provides for their student-athletes. I am ecstatic to be a part of such a phenomenal Sports Medicine program that manages physical injuries while also educating and empowering women."

As an Athletic Training Aide with the NWSL's Houston Dash during the summer of 2017, Garcia traveled with the team, covered practice, and evaluated injuries.

Garcia graduated from St. Edward's with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with emphasis on Athletic Training. At SEU, she gained valuable experience while working with women's soccer, men's basketball, volleyball, and softball.

Garcia is also coordinating a research project and coauthoring a manuscript for adolescent bilingual athletes.
