COMMERCE, Texas (Jan. 12, 2019) — A long, six-game road trip ended for Texas Woman's on Saturday with the Pioneers falling to Texas A&M-Commerce, 78-63.
Once again, the Pioneers started slow, trailing 18-10 after the first quarter.
"We struggled against the pressure in the first half," head coach
Beth Jillson said. "Which led to easy transition buckets and allowed them more possessions."
Despite the Pioneers shooting 47 percent from the field, the Lions attempted 17 more shots.
"Our defensive effort was better today," Jillson said of her team after converting on 18 Lions turnovers for 25 points. "We will continue to grow and improve as a team."
Despite 14 points apiece from
KJ Stastny and
Ma'K'La Woods, TWU could not cut into the deficit, falling to 2-4 in conference play.
Bri'Anna Gray added 10 points while
Carissa Moody fell two-points shy of another double-double with eight points and 12 boards.
On Thursday, the Pioneers will return home for the first time in over a month.
"We are looking forward to playing at KMA next week," Jillson added. "We know how important these next two games are in conference standings."
The brief two-game homestand will begin on Thursday when the Pioneers host MSU Texas at 7 p.m.
