DENTON (Jan. 17, 2019) — After over a month on the road, Texas Woman's Basketball returned home to Kitty Magee Arena. The Pioneers hosted MSU Texas, falling to the Mustangs in a hotly-contested game, 76-72.
"Definitely can't fault our players for their energy and their effort," Pioneer coach
Beth Jillson said. "We had a lot of adversity throughout the game. I thought all of our players really played hard."
Leading by 15 heading into the fourth quarter, the Pioneers stumbled as foul trouble plagued them. The game's leading scorer,
Carissa Moody logged another double-double as she scored 20 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.
Ma'K'La Woods would collect a team-high 12 boards before fouling out while freshman
Macy Wilkerson carried the load offensively down the stretch, producing 17 points off the bench.
"I thought we had some players really step up," Jillson said. "Macy played 37 minutes and played her guts out."
Despite the loss, the Pioneer faithful were on hand for the eighth annual "Pack the House" game as the student section was filled to near capacity.
"Can't thank [University] Housing enough for getting everybody out here," Jillson said. "Our players were super excited. We couldn't be more thankful for all the support from the TWU fans."
Saturday, the Pioneers will host Cameron at 2 p.m. to wrap up a brief two-game homestand. Following the game, the Pioneers will host a free youth clinic where children will get the chance to learn basketball fundamentals from their favorite Pioneer players.
