DENTON — On a night where Texas Woman's faculty and staff were honored by members of the Pioneer Soccer team, two of the Lone Star Conference's premiere teams duked it out for league supremacy.
With postseason implications, No. 9 Dallas Baptist's 11-0-1 unbeaten record, and TWU's unblemished 6-0-0 home record all on the line, the Pioneers struggled to find the back of the net and were shut out, 3-0, by the Patriots.
"DBU is a really good team," head coach
Babak Abouzar said. "They're undefeated and that just shows the level that they're at."
DBU's Delaney Schmidt provided all the offensive fireworks by netting her first career hat trick. Her first goal was unassisted in the 10th minute. She added a goal in the 70th minute and then finished her shot in the 80th minute for the 3-0 margin. Three goals is the most TWU has given up in a game all season.
Senior
Hannah Schneider provided TWU's only true chance at scoring when she sent a beautiful curving shot on frame in the 24th minute only to see it hit the goalpost.
In the first half, the Patriots outshot the Pioneers, 5-3, but after halftime, TWU came out on the attack and fired 11 shots to DBU's six. Schneider, sophomore
Keely Chapman and freshman
Jaycee Fuller each recorded three shots apiece.
"We can't sulk, we can't feel bad for ourselves," Abouzar added. "We have to learn from it and move on."
The final homestand of the season for the Pioneers will continue with another conference showdown with Angelo State on Halloween night at 7 p.m.
