Volleyball falls to Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Nov. 12, 2019) – Texas Woman's saw its two-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday after falling to Tarleton State 16-25, 30-28, 10-25, 20-25 in a non-conference match.

"It was a weird game from the jump," head coach Jeff Huebner said. "We knew heading into tonight how important the serve and pass were going to be. After performing well in that area over the weekend, we struggled a little bit early on tonight and put ourselves in a hole."

Junior Tabitha Spray led the Pioneers with 11 kills, while senior Courtney Noel and sophomore Trixie Oche finished with nine kills apiece. Oche also collected seven blocks on the night, moving her into second place in the Lone Star Conference with 123 blocks.

Senior Katy Ranes and redshirt freshman Bailey Wozniack combined for 41 assists, and senior Bailey French finished with a team-high 17 digs.

TWU (14-13, 10-6 Lone Star) dug themselves a hole in the opening set and couldn't seem to find its way out of it.

However, the Pioneers responded with an emphatic second set that resulted in a thrilling 30-28 win.

"Everything was different in the second set," Huebner said. "Our focus level, energy and execution were great. It was our best set by far, and I was proud of our kids to do a really good job of fighting and executing at critical times."

Tarleton (19-9, 11-5 LSC) grabbed the momentum back quickly in the third and fourth sets and rallied behind a crowd of 697 screaming Texans fans to secure a win on senior night at Wisdom Volleyball Gym.

TWU will host the final two regular season games at Kitty Magee Arena this weekend. The Pioneers will play Cameron on Friday at 7 p.m. before meeting up with division-leading Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
