DENTON (Feb. 14, 2019) — Valentine's Day didn't end the way Texas Woman's Basketball hoped it would as the Pioneers fell to Texas A&M-Commerce 69-51 on Thursday night at Kitty Magee Arena.
Trailing by three after the first quarter, the Pioneers were forced to play from behind for most of the game. Despite 14 points and seven rebounds from
Carissa Moody and an efficient eight points on 4-fo-6 shooting from the field from
Kam Daily, the Pioneers struggled to find any rhythm offensively, shooting only 34 percent from the field.
"Kam did a great job of being an inside presence, calling for the ball and getting to the basket," head coach
Beth Jillson said. "Carissa did a great job on the boards. When she's out of the game, we really notice that."
Ma'K'La Woods also produced her second-highest scoring output of the season, scoring 12 points and four rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.
"I thought Ma'K'la really stepped up and really had some good inside shots as well," Jillson added. "I thought we did a really good job of just pounding the ball inside and getting those easy buckets."
The Pioneers now set their sights on Tarleton State on Saturday when they host the TexAnns on Saturday at 2 p.m.
"Tarleton is a great team," Jillson said. "We'll regroup, rebound from this game and be ready to go."
At halftime, former members of the TWU Basketball program will be honored and recognized as part of the Alumni Game festivities. The game will also feature the Pioneers dawning pink uniforms for cancer awareness.
