Williams, Tamayo lead Pioneers to split against Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Feb. 16, 2019) — Three hits from Avery Williams and a pair of RBI from Paige Tamayo helped Texas Woman's earn a split on the final day of a three-game set against Texas A&M-Kingsville as the Pioneers topped the Javelinas in the nightcap, 6-5.

"We brought all parts of our game together," head coach Amber Barker said. "We played well on both sides of the ball and were able to earn a complete team victory."

The Pioneers struck for four runs in the first inning. After Tamayo drew a bases loaded walk and Taylor Goulet ripped an RBI single to left field, Lindy Kennedy capped the inning with a two-RBI single to center field.

After the Javelinas scored three runs over the next two innings, the Pioneers responded with two more runs in the fourth inning, punctuated with a Tamayo single down the right field line.

Bailey Turner picked up the win in the circle, tossing four innings allowing only two hits while striking out six of the 18 batters she faced.

"We won today as a team," Barker added. "The players said it perfectly in our post game meeting, we can't just let it stop here. We have to be ready to get after it and hold ourselves and each other accountable."

In the opening game of the day, the Pioneers were held scoreless, despite collecting seven hits, dropping the game 3-0. Leading the way in that contest was Goulet who recorded two hits and a walk as Jordan Kisselburg tossed six innings, striking out four.

Next Friday, the Pioneers will play at home for the first time this season when they host Eastern New Mexico at 6 p.m.
