DENTON (Feb. 9, 2019) —Texas Woman's three-game winning streak came to an end with an 82-51 loss to Lone Star Conference-leading Angelo State on Saturday at Kitty Magee Arena.
"Angelo State, give them credit, they're a great team," head coach
Beth Jillson said. "We just had a hard time. I thought we pressed a little bit, trying to make things happen."
The Pioneers, led by
Carissa Moody's 13 points and seven rebounds, received a spark off the bench when
Maggie Stephenson posted seven points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field in a dozen minutes off the bench.
"I'm really happy with Maggie," Jillson said. "For her to come in and just be a spark off the bench, that energy she brought was what we needed off the bench."
Despite eight points from Ma'K'la Woods and seven points apiece from
KJ Stastny and
Macy Wilkerson, the Pioneers were outscored 19-7 in the opening frame, as they struggled to make up ground as they fell to the Rambelles for the second time this season.
Next week, the Pioneers will continue their homestand with a pair of conference matchups, beginning with a meeting against Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday night.
"It's exciting that we have two more home games," Jillson added. "Great opportunities for us to learn, to bounce back and be better."
