SAN ANGELO, Texas (March 1, 2019) — "I was incredibly proud of our fight today," head coach
Amber Barker said following Texas Woman's 5-3 loss to No. 6 Angelo State on Friday night.
"We came out ready to attack on all sides of the ball," Barker added.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Pioneers struck for two runs in the third inning to take the lead against the Rambelles. The inning was capped by a
Paige Tamayo RBI single to left field.
A four-run home half of the inning gave Angelo State the 4-2 lead.
In the fourth,
Tara Solomon connected on an RBI single up the middle that scored
MaKayla Cook.
"We just had a few points in the game where we didn't capitalize in clutch situations," Barker said about the Pioneers leaving nine runners on base. "But we were right in there."
Pitcher
Bailey Turner tossed five innings, striking out four, holding the Rambelles scoreless in three of her innings pitched.
"We know what we're facing tomorrow," Barker said about the doubleheader on Saturday. "So again, we're going to need to come out ready to take charge and fight for everything."
The Pioneers will finish the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
