SAN ANGELO, Texas (March 2, 2019) — The Pioneer offense erupted on Saturday against No. 6 Angelo State as they split the final two games of their weekend series.
"Today's win was a complete team win," head coach
Amber Barker said. "Bailey (Turner) pitched a stellar game and our bats finally woke up. It took the entire team."
After dropping the day's first contest 12-5, the Pioneers responded with 12 runs of their own in Game 2, defeating the Rambelles 12-2 in five innings.
"Offensively we finally started to be selective at the plate and get our barrels through the zone," Barker said. "Which is something we've really tried to focus on as of late."
Taylor Goulet spearheaded the Pioneer attack, going 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI, including a three-run blast that started the game's scoring in the first inning.
Paige Tamayo would add a homer of her own in the third inning that pushed the Pioneer lead, 5-0. She would finish the game with two hits and three RBI.
Tylia Sylestine added a pair of RBI, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. In the circle,
Bailey Turner tossed a complete game, holding the Rambelles to only two runs on five hits as she struckout four.
In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Pioneers fell behind early. Despite a four-run third inning, the Pioneers couldn't overcome the deficit.
Sydney Johnson finished the ballgame 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored while Goulet,
Sarah LaChance and
Lindy Kennedy each finished with an RBI.
Next Friday, the Pioneers will head north for a non conference doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian beginning at 4 p.m.
