DENTON (March 16, 2019) — One day after an exciting walk-off victory over Tarleton State, Texas Woman's split the Saturday doubleheader. After falling 6-0 on a one-hit, shutout from Tarleton State Pitcher Tristan Bridges in the day's first game, the Pioneers responded with a 2-0 victory over the TexAnns.
"People aren't really expecting a ton from us," head coach
Amber Barker said. "We talked about just grinding it out and being ready."
Friday's winning pitcher
Bailey Turner tossed 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and striking out four. But with the tying runs on first and second with only one out, Barker turned to
Tatum Stover to close the door on the TexAnns. The freshman would deliver, retiring the next two batters to preserve the Pioneer victory, picking up the first save of her career.
"I'm so incredibly proud of Tatum," Barker said. "That was a big moment for her. It was great see her come in, she's been working all year for this.
The game's only runs came in the fifth inning that began with a leadoff single courtesy of
Taylor Goulet. Three batters later,
Lindy Kennedy would deposit an RBI single to right field to start the scoring.
Alexis Elizondo would punctuate the two-run inning with an RBI single of her own to left field.
"When we come back next week for practice, everything we do, we remember it's for a bigger purpose," Barker said. "I'm really hopeful that we found the direction that we want to go."
Texas Woman's will hit the road for a three-game series against MSU Texas before returning home the following week to host UT-Permian Basin.
