WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 21, 2019) — Despite strong pitching and defense, Texas Woman's dropped the first two games of its series against MSU Texas on Thursday.
"Our defense and pitching are keeping us in ballgames," head coach
Amber Barker said. "Unfortunately, we're not doing ourselves any justice at the plate."
Held to just two hits and leaving three runners on base in a 1-0 loss in Game 1, the Pioneers would strand seven runners on base in a 2-0 loss in Game 2.
Avery Williams would be the only Pioneer to register a hit in both games while Makayla Cook produced the only TWU multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate in the nightcap.
The reigning Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week,
Bailey Turner, continued her strong play in the circle. In the first game of the series, she pitched six innings, allowing only one earned run on five hits while recording four strikeouts.
Through the first four innings of Game 2, starting pitcher
Jordan Kisselburg allowed only one hit before conceding the go-ahead run in the fifth inning.
"We have a chance to take one tomorrow," Barker said. "But we have to hit and score runs."
Tomorrow, the Pioneers and the Mustangs will wrap up their series with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
