DENTON (March 2, 2019) — Texas Woman's fell to Eastern New Mexico 71-63 on Saturday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena in the regular season finale.
"We're gonna learn from (today), get better and thankfully we're the 7-seed in the tournament," head coach
Beth Jillson said. "It's March, anything can happen."
The day began with the annual Senior Day festivities as
KJ Stastny,
Alexus Dukes and
Bri'anna Gray were honored for their time with the Pioneers
"It's just great to honor them," Jillson said. "They are a big part of this legacy and this program."
With Dukes and Gray sidelined with injury, it was Stastny who directed the Pioneers offense, posting a game-high four assists.
"KJ is a player that's tough as nails," Jillson said. "You know you're going to get 100 percent from her."
Carissa Moody fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds while
Macy Wilkerson led all Pioneers with 15 points, knocking down 3-of-4 from behind the arc.
Ma'K'La Woods continued her offensive prowess, scoring double figures for the sixth-straight game.
"I felt like our team went out there and gave it the best we could," Stastny said post-game. "We're just thankful that everyone came out tonight to watch, and that was really nice."
Next Friday, the Pioneers will take on the Lone Star Conference co-regular season champions Angelo State at 2:30 p.m. in Frisco, Texas in the opening round of the tournament.
"We've gotta continue to take steps in the right direction, go back to work and be ready to go on Friday," Jillson said.
