DENTON (March 29, 2019) — TWU Softball topped UT Permian Basin in the first two games of a three-game set on Friday evening.
After winning the opener 4-1, the Pioneers topped the Falcons in the nightcap behind a one-hit shutout from
Jordan Kisselburg.
"We were super proud of Jordan on the mound," head coach
Amber Barker said. "It was just great. It was fun to see."
Kisselburg allowed only four baserunners all game while recording four strikeouts. At the plate,
Tylia Sylestine blasted her second homer of the season with a solo shot to left field in the first inning.
"The pitcher did get ahead of me," Sylestine said of the at-bat. "[But] I just finally connected on a pitch and there it went."
Sylestine would finish the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with
Avery Williams the only other Pioneer to record multiple hits, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
"I thought we did a great job offensively," Barker said of her team's performance. "We hit the ball really well today and, on the bases, we did a great job of taking extra bases when they gave it to us."
In the opening game of the series, the Falcons struck first, scoring a run in the first inning. The lead would evaporate in the home half of the inning when a
Bailey Turner RBI single set the stage for an
Alexa Neifert sacrifice fly.
An RBI double from
Paige Tamayo added to the Pioneer advantage with Turner putting the finishing touches on the scoring with an RBI single to right field in the fifth inning.
Not only did Turner finish the game 3-for-3 at the plate, she tossed another complete game, allowing just one run on seven hits while recording five strikeouts.
Texas Woman's and UT Permian Basin will wrap up the series at Dianne Baker Field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
