DENTON (April 11, 2019) — A four-run first inning deficit proved to be too much for Texas Woman's to overcome as the Pioneers fell to Cameron 10-2 in five innings on Thursday evening at Dianne Baker Field.
"We never bounced back after those four runs," head coach
Amber Barker said. "You could feel the energy just not be with us anymore after that."
In the bottom of the first inning, a
Taylor Goulet double to right center field scored
Paige Tamayo, putting the Pioneers on the board.
The only other run in the ballgame for the Pioneers would come in the bottom of the third inning when a Tamayo sac fly scored
Tylia Sylestine.
"We tried to get a little bit of a rally going," Barker added. "It just wasn't all there collectively today."
Texas Woman's will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when it closes the series with a doubleheader against the Aggies beginning at 4 p.m. Between games, members of the 1979 National Championship team will be honored on the field, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the university's first national title.
