CANYON, Texas (April 19, 2019) — Texas Woman's Softball dropped the final two games of its series against West Texas A&M on Friday.

In Game 1, the Pioneers fell 12-3 after jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first. Paige Tamayo putting the Pioneers out in front with a solo home run to center field, her eighth of the season.

"We had several opportunities today," head coach Amber Barker said. "But unfortunately we hurt ourselves by not turning plays into outs or not making smart decisions on the bases."

After the Lady Buffs struck for four-unanswered runs, the Pioneers responded in the fourth with a two-RBI single from Alexis Elizondo, cutting the deficit to one run.

"We gave them extra outs on defense," Barker added. "With a team like WT that will always come back to bite you."

Game 2 saw the Pioneers hang tough, falling in the end, 8-4.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Taylor Goulet drove in the equalizer with an RBI double that scored Tamayo.

A two-run homer from Tylia Sylestine gave the Pioneers the lead an inning later. But it wouldn't be enough as the Lady Buffs would outscore the Pioneers 6-1 through the remainder of the ballgame.

The Pioneers will wrap up the season at home next week against Western New Mexico.

"We have a final weekend at home, and we are hoping to send our seniors out on a huge positive note."
