Pioneers drop twin bill to No. 10 Lions

COMMERCE, Texas (April 5, 2019) — Texas Woman's fell to No. 10 Texas A&M-Commerce twice on Friday. The Pioneers dropped both games of the doubleheader by a final of 5-1.

"We took care of the ball on defense and made some incredible plays," head coach Amber Barker said. "We were able to give ourselves a chance."

In the first game of the day, despite only scoring one run, the Pioneers were able to strike for 10 hits with Paige Tamayo, Avery Williams and Tara Solomon each posting two hits in the ballgame.

"Offensively, in the first game of the day, we hit the ball well and got runners on," Barker added. "We just didn't have timely hitting."

A 3-for-3, four-RBI performance from the Lions' Kinsie Hebler put the game out of reach as the Pioneers left 10 runners on base.

The nightcap saw the Pioneers jump out to their first lead of the series when Tylia Sylestine blasted a homer to center field in the first at bat of the game. That would be the only offense TWU would produce as the Lions would outscore the Pioneers 5-0 through the final six innings.

The Pioneers will return home for Homecoming Weekend when they host Cameron beginning on Friday, April 12 at Dianne Baker Field.
