TYLER, Texas -
Keely Chapman scored a pair of goals, while
Morgan Sherman turned in four saves in net as the Texas Woman's University soccer team (10-2-2, 7-2-0 Lone Star Conference) claimed a 2-1 overtime victory over UT Tyler (4-7, 2-6) on Wednesday at the Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
Chapman's first strike came on a penalty kick in the 24th minute, giving TWU a lead that would carry through the first half. TWU applied pressure on net throughout the half, outshooting UT Tyler 7-4 and holding a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.
The Patriots knotted the game in the 75th minute on a penalty kick of their own, and in an evenly-contested half, where shots were even at 6-6 and UT Tyler held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal, neither team was able to untie the game in regulation.
The game seemed destined to go to a second overtime, but
Abby Powers fed Chapman on her second goal of the contest in the 100th minute to lift the Pioneers to victory.
TWU returns to action on Saturday, October 23, hosting Lubbock Christian in a 1 p.m. contest at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
