DENTON, Texas -
Keely Chapman and
Alyssa Simien both scored their seventh goals of the season, leading the way as the Texas Woman's University soccer team (11-2-2, 8-2-0 Lone Star Conference) held off Lubbock Christian (7-4-2, 4-4-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
"All around good performance by our team," said head coach
Babak Abouzar. "We started the game putting pressure on them which set the tone for the game. We did much better this game winning 50/50 balls which helped jump start our attack. We had two really good goals from
Keely Chapman and
Alyssa Simien.
Abby Powers continues to come on as a sub giving our team valuable minutes. We have a full week until our next game which we'll use for rest and recovery."
Jazmine Navarro fed Chapman in the 18th minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage, and TWU took advantage of Simien's goal in the 29th minute to extend its lead to 2-0.
The Lady Chaps cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 45th minute, but could not get any closer, as the Pioneers defense did not allow another shot on goal the remainder of the way.
The Pioneers held a 10-3 advantage in shots, including a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal. TWU led 7-1 in corner kicks.
Kaylee Smith,
Alyssa Simien, and Chapman all had two shots apiece.
TWU returns to action on Saturday, October 30, hosting Angelo State in a 1 p.m. matchup at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
