Kate Franz had a two-hit afternoon, but the Texas Woman's University softball team (0-4) was unable to overcome untimely errors in an 8-1 setback to nationally sixteenth-ranked Rogers State (3-0) on Saturday in Tyler.
The Pioneers were able to get on the board in the second inning as
Taylor Goulet scored on an RBI grounder, but the Hillcats answered in the top of the third, taking advantage of two Pioneers errors to plate a pair of runs and claim a 2-1 lead.
RSU added four runs in the fourth inning after three fielding errors, and capped their scoring with a two-run sixth inning.
Kelsie Briggs took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season after surrendering six runs, three earned, in 3.2 innings of work, fanning two and walking five.
The Pioneers close play on Sunday, Feb. 28, facing No. 3 Augustana and St. Mary's. TWU faces Augustana at 10 a.m. and St. Mary's at 2:30.
