DENTON, Texas -
Keely Chapman scored her second goal of the season in the closing minutes of the first half, providing the Texas Woman's University soccer team (3-0-2) all the offense it would need in a 1-0 shutout win over Bridgeport (3-2-0) on Thursday night at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
"Great way to close out the non-conference slate of our season against a well coached Bridgeport team," said head coach
Babak Abouzar. "Going into the game we had a game plan and our team did a great job of executing it. Keely had a nice finish to give us the win. Haley's vision to play it to her was really good to see. Our backline did a great job of limiting their opportunities."
TWU held a 10-3 advantage in shots - including an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Bridgeport took the first shot on goal of the contest in the 14th minute, the lone save of the night in freshman
Alex Jacinto's third shutout of the season. Chapman fired shots on goal in the 15th and 21st minutes, but her third try was the charm in the 44th minute, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage just before the half after a goal set up by
Rayne Islas.
In the second half the Pioneers kept the offensive pressure up, firing five shots on goal while allowing just two shots by Bridgeport.
TWU opens league play this coming Wednesday, Sept. 22, traveling to Portales, N.M. for a Lone Star Conference matchup with Eastern New Mexico.
