ODESSA, Texas – The Texas Woman's University basketball team will continue their slate of Lone Star Conference action games this week on the road.

After exhibiting Pioneer perfection in their opening week of conference play, TWU (9-3, 2-0 Lone Star Conference) will go on the road to play the University of Texas Permian Basin (4-8) on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Last week, the Pioneers defeated St. Mary's University and St. Edward's University, both by 13 points in each contest.

UTPB has not played since Dec. 29, 2021, and the Falcons have not played any conference games. They have played several nonconference games against LSC opponents, including a seven-point win over St. Mary's and a two-point loss to St. Edward's.

KEYS TO KEEP IT ROLLING
  • HISTORY KEEPS REPEATING: The Pioneers and the Falcons have met 10 times. In those 10 meetings, TWU holds the advantage with eight wins and just two losses. In the most recent matchup between the two teams on Jan. 30, 2021, the Pioneers won by one point, 67-66.
  • PAINT BATTLE: In their past two games, UTPB scored an average of 45 points in the paint. TWU has been winning the paint battle in their past three wins, and they will have to limit the Falcons scoring in the paint. Ashley Ingram, the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Week, and Falcons forward and leading scorer Alexus Wykoff will be a key matchup in the paint.
  • THEY'RE FREE: In their last game against St. Edward's University, the Pioneers shot 22 free throws and made 18, going 81.8% from the line. TWU's ability to draw fouls and their free throw shooting could be key in Thursday's matchup.
