ASHLEY INGRAM AND MA'K'LA WOODS RECORD DOUBLE-DOUBLES IN TWU LOSS TO MIDWESTERN STATE

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 20, 2022) – Ashley Ingram scored a career high 30 points and finished with her second career double-double (13 rebounds), but the Texas Woman's University basketball team fell to Midwestern State University, 83-76, on Thursday night.

Ma'K'La Woods joined the double-double party with Ingram, recording 14 points and 11 rebounds, which was her first double-double of the season.

In a non-conference match-up against a Lone Star Conference opponent, TWU (10-5, 3-1 LSC) went back-and-forth down the stretch with Midwestern State (9-6, 3-2 LSC). Across 40 minutes of action, the score was tied 10 times and there were 13 lead changes.

The Pioneers trailed by as much as six in the first quarter. Then, Ingram drained a 3-pointer, which ignited a run for the Pioneers in the final minute of the quarter. Ariyanna Hines scored a jumper with nine seconds on the clock, followed by a coast-to-coast drive from Kayla Glover to give the Pioneers a one-point lead.

Sadie Moyer heated up in the second quarter, scoring 10 of the Pioneers 15 second quarter points. Heading into halftime, TWU trailed by just one point.

Right out of the gate in the third quarter, Ma'K'La Woods regained the lead for the Pioneers, after sinking a jumper in the paint. TWU then jumped out to their largest lead of the game, four points, with 1:32 on the clock. Hines knocked down a 2-pointer and Moyer followed up with her only three of the game to give the Pioneers the lead.

TWU maintained their advantage until the six-minute mark of the fourth quarter, when the Mustangs went on a run to claim a six-point lead. The Pioneers struggled to score at the same rate and found themselves behind by eight points with one minute remaining in the game.

Because of Midwestern State's lead, the Pioneers opted to foul and extend the clock with timeouts. With a couple of dynamic defensive plays, the Pioneers fought to the final whistle, but they were unable to overcome the deficit.

Moyer finished with 19 points and two assists. Hines scored a career high six points in the loss, and Keslyn King finished with five points and two rebounds.

TWU will return to action next Thursday in Kitty Magee Arena. In a LSC contest, they will play against Cameron University at 6 p.m.
