PIONEERS HAND CAMERON FIRST LSC LOSS OF 2022

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 27, 2022) – Ashley Ingram and Keslyn King both scored in double figures, as the Texas Woman's University basketball team handed Cameron University their first Lone Star Conference loss on Thursday night, 65-61.

Ingram scored 21 points and King scored a season high 11 points in tonight's win.

TWU (11-5, 4-1 Lone Star Conference) held Cameron (10-6, 5-1) to just seven made 3-pointers in the game, which ties their lowest number of made threes this season. The Aggies, who average 34.8% from behind the arc, only shot 28% on Thursday.

The Pioneers reentered the win column after two straight losses by returning to their defensive dominance.

At half time, TWU led 37-18, and only allowed the Aggies to score seven points in the second quarter, which is Cameron's lowest quarter points in 2022.

Defense also powered the Pioneers offense in the first half. TWU shot 53.6% from the field in the first half.

In the third quarter, the Aggies began to answer the Pioneers offensive stronghold, scoring 23 points in the third. However, TWU continued to match the scoring from the Aggies. Ariyanna Hines ignited the crowd with 27 seconds left in the third quarter to give the Pioneers a 14-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

The fourth quarter proved to be the biggest test for the Pioneers, due to an unfortunate scoring drought that resulted in a tie game with 1:30 left on the clock.

With the game tied, the Pioneers called a timeout to advance the ball. After the inbounds, Brielle Woods drove and missed a lay-up. The ball bobbled amongst Aggies and Pioneers before Agang Tac controlled the rebound and scored the go-ahead basket.

With Tac's basket, the Aggies were forced to play the foul game to extend the clock, which allowed Ashley Ingram to seal the game with two made free throws.

Ingram and King grabbed the most rebounds for the Pioneers with eight and six respectively.

Tac added eight points and 6 rebounds in the win, and Brielle Woods led the defensive charge for the Pioneers with three steals.

TWU will be back in action in KMA on Saturday at 2 p.m. to take on Lone Star Conference opponent West Texas A&M University.
