TWU DROPS THREE SETS TO TAMUK

DENTON, Texas (October 29, 2022) - In three decisive sets, Texas A&M - Kingsville (18-8, 10-3) defeated Texas Woman's (15-11, 5-9) volleyball. 
 
After upsetting Texas A&M International (19-6, 10-2) in five sets Friday night, the Pioneers were determined to keep the momentum against the Javelinas but they were unable to get the win Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 15-11 overall and 5-9 throughout the Lone Star Conference. 
 
The Pioneers opened set one with an attack error, giving the Javelina's the lead advantage to close set one 25-17. 
 
Following the first set, the Javelinas took the lead once again. Looking to close the gap, the Pioneers were unable to catch up to the Javelina's and closed set two 25-14. 
 
Determined and resilient, the Pioneers opened set three with an enthusiastic kill from Tori Woods. The Pioneers went on to lead the set holding the Javelina's to a four-point stint 8-4. A last-minute push from the Pioneers tied the set 25-25, but it was the Javelinas who closed the match 27-25. 
 
Woods posted 10 kills for the match, followed by Kiya Yeoman with eight kills and Myracle Stockman with a six-kill performance. 
 
Lizzy Reed recorded 20 assists for the Pioneers, while Kiana Reed chipped in with 11 assists. 
 
Defensively, Yanely Pabon recorded nine digs, followed by Lizzy Reed with a total of seven digs. Kiana Reed tallied five digs for the match. 
 
As a team, the Pioneers held a .178 hitting percentage. They cashed in six service aces and managed two blocks from the net. 
 
"We are looking forward to being back in Kitty Magee Arena," Head Volleyball Coach Jeff Huebner said." Celebrating our faculty and staff on Friday and then our seniors Saturday night will be a great finish to the regular season as we work to earn a conference tournament opportunity." 
 
The Pioneers will be back in KMA to end the regular season. On Friday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m., we will be honoring our faculty and staff for their hard work, followed by the final game of the season and celebration of our seniors on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m.
