CONROE, Texas (Feb. 7, 2022) – In their final two games of the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational, the Texas Woman's University softball team lost both games.
TWU (1-4) opened the morning at 9 a.m. against Southeastern Oklahoma State University (2-3). After finishing their game late last night, the Pioneers came out a little sluggish against the Savage Storm.
Julianne Malis (0-2) got the starting nod for the Pioneers. She allowed two runs in the bottom of the first inning, before
Kelsie Briggs relieved her. Briggs threw four strikeouts and allowed three runs – one in the second, fifth and sixth.
Three Pioneers recorded hits in the loss.
Nya Brown led TWU at the plate with two hits and
Kristin Rodriguez and
Briana Yale each finished with one hit.
Almost three hours later, TWU met Rogers State (5-1) in their final game of the Invitational.
Jalee McDonald (1-1) started the game against the Hillcats, after getting her first win of the season against Southern Nazarene University Sunday night. McDonald only allowed one run each in the first and second inning, before the Hillcats caught fire in the fourth and fifth inning to win the game 11-0.
The Pioneers improved from the morning game and finished with five hits against Rogers State. Their Achilles heel turned out to be the number of errors they committed (six).
All five TWU hits came from five different Pioneer players: Brown, Rodriguez, Yale,
Missy Wise and
Rylee Lara.
Brown also recorded four stolen bases on the day – three against Southeastern Oklahoma and one against Rogers State.
The Pioneers will play their 2022 home opener at Dianne Baker Field on Saturday, Feb. 12 in a double header against Dallas Christian College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
