SCORING DROUGHT LEADS TO TWU BASKETBALL LSC QUARTERFINAL LOSS

FRISCO, Texas (March 4, 2022) – Ashley Ingram scored her fifth double-double of the season, as the Texas Woman's University basketball team dropped their opening game in the Lone Star Conference Championship Quarterfinals to University of Texas – Tyler, 59-46.

Against the Patriots, TWU (19-8) struggled to catch fire in Frisco down the stretch, recording their second lowest point total of the season.

"It seemed like there was a lid on the basket for us," TWU head coach Beth Jillson said. "We looked more like us in the fourth quarter, because we turned up our defense and energy. We are a young team, so this environment will prepare us for what's next.

UT-Tyler (19-8) upset the Pioneers on 37% shooting from the field and 38% shooting from behind the arc.

Despite being outscored by six in the first quarter, the Pioneers bounced back on defense in the second quarter to limit the Patriots to 10 points to TWU's 9 points.

However, the scoring drought resurfaced for TWU in the third quarter, as UT-Tyler held the Pioneers to just five points, all from the free throw line.

Then, in the fourth quarter, TWU returned to their bread-and-butter – defense. At the five-minute mark of the fourth, the Pioneers grabbed three steals in a 40-second span, which ignited a six-point run for the Pioneers.

TWU won the fourth quarter 22-21. Nevertheless, the clock became the Pioneers enemy, as UT-Tyler closed the game on an 8-0 run.

Sadie Moyer led the Pioneers with 15 points and added a season high six rebounds. Ingram finished with 12 points and 12 boards. Keslyn King added nine points and two rebounds.

"We have battled through adversity during the regular season, and we have grown so much as a team," Ingram said. "I am just so proud everyone."

TWU will await the Selection Show on Sunday, March 6 to find out their South Central Regional placement. The first game of the South Central Regional will be on Friday, March 11.
