INDIANAPOLIS (March 6, 2022) – For the third time in program history, the Texas Woman's University basketball will be playing in the South Central Regional Tournament.
On Sunday night in a Fuzzy's full of Pioneer fans, TWU was announced as the fourth seed in the South Central Regional Tournament. The fourth seed is the highest placement in the Regional tournament in TWU history. In 2011, the first time the Pioneers made it, they were the seventh seed. Then, in 2016, TWU sealed the eighth seed in the region.
TWU (19-8) was ranked in the top five in every NCAA South Central Regional Ranking, getting as high as No. 3.
The 2022 South Central Regional Tournament, which includes eight teams compiled from the Lone Star Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, will be hosted by No. 1 seed West Texas A&M University (23-10).
The Lady Buffs received the LSC automatic bid after winning the conference tournament on Sunday. Despite having 10 losses, they claimed the No. 1 seed after defeating Texas A&M University – Commerce in the LSC Championship game. TAMUC (26-4) claimed the No. 2 seed, and Lubbock Christian University (26-6) took No. 3. All LSC schools received the top four regional seeds.
For the RMAC schools, Metropolitan State University – Denver (22-8) received the RMAC's automatic bid after winning the conference title on Saturday and received the fifth seed. Colorado State University – Pueblo (23-8) claimed the sixth seed and Colorado School of Mines (25-5) clinched the seventh seed. Finally, in the eighth seed, Colorado Mesa University (23-6) rounded out the regional selections.
In the first round, the Pioneers will face the Roadrunners of MSU – Denver on Friday, March 11 – times to be announced.
The meeting between the two teams will be the second one of the season. On Nov. 13, 2021, in the Pioneers second game of the season, MSU – Denver played the Pioneers in KMA. TWU won the game in triple overtime 86-83.
The South Central Regional Semifinals will take place on March 12 and the Regional Championship will be held on March 14. All of the games will be held in Canyon, Texas.
