DENTON, Texas (April 25, 2022) – After a historic season, the Texas Woman's University basketball team continues to build their 2022-23 season roster to make another run.

On April 25, 2022, TWU basketball head coach Beth Jillson announced the signing of decorated transfer, Leila Patel.

"I had the privilege of watching Leila win many games at Frisco Centennial and with her Texas U club team," Jillson said. "She is a fierce competitor, who will give us height and versatility at the wing position.  She has the ability to score at all three levels and is a tough, tenacious defender.  I'm thrilled to have her joining our team."

In high school at Frisco Centennial, Patel, a 5-10 guard, was a four-year varsity basketball player. During her 2018 freshman season, Patel was named the District Newcomer of the Year. The next season, as a sophomore, she earned All-State and All-District honors, while surpassing 1,000 total career points.

As a junior, Patel continued to raise the bar. She was named her team's Offensive Most Valuable Player for the second time while also earning All-State and All-District honors for the second consecutive year.

To close her high school career, Patel was named the District 9-5A Most Valuable Player, after averaging 20.5 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Patel also played club basketball for Texas U on the Under Armour GUAA circuit.

Following her decorated high school career, Patel signed with The George Washington University, in Washington D.C.

As a freshman with the Colonials, Patel started in one game and scored a season-high six points against The University of Rhode Island on January 12.

Patel brings Division I experience to the Pioneers and will make an immediate impact in the 2022-23 Pioneers lineup.
