BROWN RECORDS 12TH RBI OF THE SEASON; PIONEERS LOSE TWO TO NO. 14 ANGELO STATE

DENTON, Texas (April 3, 2022) – On a sunny Sunday at Dianne Baker Field, the Texas Woman's University softball team lost two games to No. 14 Angelo State University.
 
TWU (9-22, 4-16 Lone Star Conference) dropped the first game to ASU (29-7, 14-6) 8-0 and the second game 9-1.
 
In the first game, the Rambelles opened the gates with a streak of runs, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. They scored their final two runs in the top of the second inning.
 
Following their eight-run succession, Kelsie Briggs entered the game at pitcher. In the remaining three innings of play, Briggs gave up zero runs and only allowed two hits.
 
Alexys Ginegaw and Leah Deaver both recorded singles in the first game for the Pioneers.
 
TWU's starting pitcher, Jalee McDonald (1-4), struck out one batter.
 
Following a 30-minute intermission between games, the Rambelles continued their trend of opening the game with runs, scoring eight runs in the first three innings.
 
Facing a possible run rule in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Pioneers came up big when a clutch play was needed.
 
With the bases loaded and two outs on the board, Nya Brown single to left field to score Leah Deaver. Brown recorded her 12th RBI of the season.
 
Deaver's run would be the Pioneers lone run of the game.
 
In the last two innings, TWU played solid defense and only gave up one run in the top of the seventh to lose the game 9-1.
 
Jules Malis (4-10) started the game for the Pioneers. Briggs pitched the second and third inning, and McDonald closed the game for TWU. McDonald led the Pioneers with two strikeouts.
 
On the offensive side of the ball, the Pioneers recorded six hits. Brown led with two singles, and Lily Wilson, Cecily Rodriguez, Kristin Rodriguez and Deaver each recorded one hit.
 
After this week's homestand, the Pioneers will go on the road for conference action next week. On Friday, April 8, TWU will play Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico at 3 pm and 5 pm. Then, on Sunday, April 10, the Pioneers will travel to Canyon, Texas to face West Texas A&M University at 12 pm and 2 pm.
