FOR THE 15TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR, TWU VOLLEYBALL EARNS USMC-AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (June 18, 2022) – For the 15th consecutive season, the Texas Woman's University volleyball team received the United State Marine Corps (USMC) - American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. 
 
Excelling in the classroom as well as the court has become an identifying quality of Pioneer volleyball according to Lu Andrade, TWU volleyball assistant coach. 
 
"I am so extremely proud of our team for sustaining their excellence in the classroom year-after-year, with this being the 15th consecutive time our program has earned this award," Andrade said. "We take a lot of pride in our academics, and this is a well deserved recognition for our student-athletes. It is an honor for me to see them succeed."
 
TWU volleyball head coach Jeff Huebner said he is proud of not only the student-athletes for their hard work and dedication to academic success, but of Coach Andrade as well, as she oversees the academics of the volleyball team. 
 
"I am proud of our team for this award," Huebner said. "We have incredible support from administration, faculty and staff to contribute to our success. Congratulations to Coach Andrade who oversees all of our program's academic success."
 
The USMC-AVCA Team Academic Award, which began in 1992-93, celebrates high school and collegiate volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) or 4.1 or higher (on a 5.0 scale). 
 
TWU finished the Fall 2021 semester with a 3.663 team GPA and posted a 3.817 GPA for the Spring 2022 semester, boasting a year-long 3.74 GPA. 
 
The Pioneers were among 147 Division II women volleyball teams named as recipients and among more than 1,200 high school and collegiate teams receiving the award. 
 
TWU also received AVCA Academic Honor Roll for having a team GPA in the top 20% of all Division II women's programs.
