DENTON, Texas (Jan. 18, 2023) – The nationally ranked No.7/9 Texas Woman's basketball team returns home to Kitty Magee Arena for a meeting with fellow conference opponent, who is also nationally ranked, No. 17 West Texas A&M.
TWU (15-1, 10-0) remains the only undefeated team in the Lone Star Conference. Most recently, the Pioneers were ranked No. 1 in the South Central Region, No. 7 on the D2SIDA National Poll and No. 9 on the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll.
The Pioneers most recently went on the road and defeated Texas A&M Kingsville and Texas A&M International.
WT (15-3, 8-2) played at home in Canyon, Texas last week, defeating Western New Mexico, 73-66, on Jan. 12 and Eastern New Mexico, 84-55, on Jan. 14.
The Lady Buffs have three losses on the season and two in Lone Star Conference action. Within the LSC, WT has lost to Texas A&M – Kingsville 71-60 on the road and Angelo State 60-53, also on the road.
The Pioneers and the Lady Buffs will meet for the first time this season since WT defeated the Pioneers in the regional tournament last season.

SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
- TOP SCORERS: Only one WT player averages double-digit points per game: No. 23 Karley Motschenbacher. She leads WT, averaging 13.1 points per game. She shoots a team-high .481 from the field and .385 from the three. The Lady Buffs' second leading scorer is No. 24 Nyalam Thabach. She averages 9.3 points per game on .473 from the field and .761 from the three. In their last win against ENMU, Motschenbacher led WT with 17 points and eight rebounds.
- HIGH SCORING: The Lady Buffs lead the LSC in offense, averaging 72.3 points per game. TWU ranks third with 70.7 points per game. WT also ranks No. 2 in defense, holding their opponents to 58.5 points per game. The Pioneers rank sixth with their opponents scoring 60.1 points per game. WT also ranks first in team three point field percentage, shooting .348 from downtown. They lead the conference in made threes per game with 8.6.
- DEFEND THE THREE: In their three losses on the season, the Lady Buffs shot under 30% from three. No. 11 Zamorye Roberts leads the Lady Buffs, shooting .388 from behind the arc. Seven Lady Buffs shoot .350 or higher from the three point line. The Pioneers will look to limit the three from WT to win the game on Thursday.
