WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Nov. 30, 2023) – The Texas Woman's basketball team tips off Lone Star Conference action tonight against Midwestern State on the road.

TWU (6-1) will meet MSU (0-6) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to begin LSC action. In their non-conference slate, the Pioneers went 6-1. They are currently ranked No. 10 and No. 14 on both national polls.

On the LSC Preseason Poll, TWU was picked to finish second, while Midwestern State was slated to finish 15th.

The Mustangs are currently led by first-year head coach Brenita Jackson. Jackson came to the Mustangs from Texas Wesleyan, where she most recently led the Rams to the NAIA Round of 16 in 2023.

The Pioneers will look to open LSC play with a win on the road tonight.

LSC TIP-OFF
  • FAMILIAR FOE: The Mustangs and Pioneers have been playing each other since 1987. In their 52 meetings, TWU has won 18 of those meetings. On the road against MSU, the Pioneers are 8-15, and in LSC contests, TWU is 17-23. The Pioneers are currently on a 2-0 win streak against the Mustangs. Last season, TWU defeated MSU, 71-51, in Denton, Texas. Three Pioneers scored in double-digits. Ashley Ingram led TWU with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Pioneers last played in Wichita Falls, Texas in Feb. 2022, defeating the Mustangs 84-64. In that win, Scout Huffman led TWU with 21 points.
  • SOLID START: In their last game, the Pioneers scored just 10 points in the first quarter and gave up 23 points. They shot 32.8% from the field and 30.4% from the three point line. While the Pioneers bounced back and scored 17, 17 and 25 in the final three quarters, the slow start affected them being able to overcome the deficit. A solid start will be key tonight. In their last game, the Mustangs scored just seven points in the first quarter. A solid start on defense will also be key for TWU.
  • LOCKDOWN: The Mustangs currently average 16.2 turnovers per game, and their opponents average 18.7 points off their turnovers. Per game, TWU forces their opponents to commit 15 turnovers. The Pioneers score 14.4 points off those turnovers per game. TWU will look to create more steals and force the Mustangs into turnovers to win the game.
