LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 26, 2023) – Texas Woman's (9-7, 5-4) softball dropped final two games of the series to Lubbock Christian (16-4, 6-3).
In game two, the Pioneers registered one run, five hits and three errors for a total score of 9-1 and ended game three with three runs, three hits, and no errors for a total score of 4-3.
Â
Alyssa LeBlanc (5-4) started in the circle for game two and pitched two innings. LeBlanc faced two batters in the third inning before the substitution for
Jalee McDonald in the bottom of the third inning was made.
Â
The Chaps carried the momentum from game one into game two and scored early in the first inning after a double to left field created opportunity for the Chaps to add a run on the board.
Â
The Pioneers riddled with several fielding errors made it difficult to comeback against the Chaps.
Â
Brooke Cornelison opened the fifth inning at bat. A single up the middle would put her on first base. Followed by
Kennedy Marlow with a bunt to third base, to advance Cornelison to second base. Slowly but surely the Pioneers worked their way around the bases.
Â
Marlow advanced to second base on a wild pitch, while Cornelison was on third until the Chaps lost the pitch and allowed Cornelison to score and close game two in the fifth inning. Â Â
Â
To open game three, the Pioneers added
Kelsie Briggs (3-2) to the circle for two innings and most of the third inning, followed by
Jules Malis, and closed with
Jalee McDonald for three innings.
Â
The Chaps took an early lead and scored two runs in the third inning, followed by one run in the fourth and fifth inning, before the Pioneers could say enough is enough.
Â
The top of the seventh inning was a turning point for the Pioneers. LeBlanc was hit by a pitch to take first base and advance to second after
Avery Boley walked.
Makana Morton made her way to second, after entering the game as a pinch runner for LeBlanc.Â
Â
Shortly after the substitution,
Lauren Trinh hit her first home run of the season to bring Morton and
Avery Boley home.
Â
As a team, the Pioneers recorded 12 putouts in game two and 18 putouts in game three. Â
Â
The Pioneers will be back home at Dianne Baker Field on Tuesday, Feb. 28 for a non-conference double header against Henderson State. The first pitch is at 4 p.m. followed game two at 6 p.m.
