TWU SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLE HEADER TO UT TYLER

DENTON, Texas (March 21, 2023) – Texas Woman's softball dropped two games in a double header matchup to No. 4 UT Tyler Tuesday evening at Dianne Baker Field.
 
The Pioneers (16-16, 10-13) put up a fight on Tuesday night against the Patriots, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the Lone Star Conference (30-4, 18-2). 
 
UT Tyler started off the scoring tonight at Dianne Baker Field, opening the first inning of game one with one run. 
 
In the bottom of the first inning, the Patriots made sure to walk the Pioneers' leadoff hitter, Alyssa LeBlanc. 
 
Then, following a fly out to left center by Tyler Lane, Lauren Trinh doubled to center field to put LeBlanc in scoring position at third.     
 
 With two runners on base, Avery Boley stepped to plate and hit a home run to left center to record three RBIs and put the Pioneers in the lead 3-1. 
 
No batters were left on base after Hannah Schnettler struck out swinging to close the inning.
 
After giving up one run to start the game, TWU would hold the Patriots to  one run each in the second, fourth, and the fifth inning. UT Tyler found the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning, after a single brought a Patriot home. TWU was unable to answer in the next three innings and would drop a tightly contested battle, 4-3, with the Patriots to start the series. 
 
In game one, the Pioneers tallied three runs, five hits and three RBIs. 
 
Opening the night from the circle was freshman pitcher Janyssa Ramos (1-4). Ramos pitched for one inning and faced three batters in the second inning. She recorded one strikeout on the night. 
 
LeBlanc entered the game in the top of the second inning and extended her record to 9-7. LeBlanc ended the night with four strikeouts.  
 
In game two, the Pioneers scored early to even the playing field against UT Tyler's 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
 
LeBlanc sent a single to center , followed by a single from Lane to advance LeBlanc. With Pioneers on first and second, Trinh's ground out to third base was just enough to advance the runners into scoring position. . 
 
On a wild pitch from the Patriots, LeBlanc scored a run, while Lane advanced to third. Delaney Boley brought Lane home with a single to right field, recording her second hit of the night and first RBI
 
The Patriots opened the second inning with four runs and then would add five more in the game to win game two, 11-2. 
 
Jalee McDonald (1-1) entered the circle as the starting pitcher in game two and pitched one inning and faced six batters in the second inning, before Ramos entered the game. Ramos threw for five innings and added one strikeout to her nights' total.
 
The Pioneers are set to battle back in game three of the series at Dianne Baker Field tomorrow afternoon First pitch is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, at Noon.
