DENTON, Texas (March 3, 2023) – Texas Woman's (12-7, 6-4) softball opened their three game series against Cameron with a 4-1 win at Dianne Baker Field.
With the win, the Pioneers push their undefeated home record to eight tonight and are now 6-4 in the conference.
Skies were clear, as it was a perfect night to grab your favorite blanket and catch the Pioneers hit two home runs and register four RBIs.
Alyssa LeBlanc (6-4) stepped into the circle tonight and pitched for seven innings. LeBlanc recorded 12 strikeouts on the night and is now 6-4 from the mound.
At the plate,
Avery Boley was an anchor for the Pioneers. Boley registered three RBIs to lead the Pioneers to their game one win.
The Pioneers made their presence known with two runs in the first inning. LeBlanc hit a dinger out of the park, aimed at right field for an RBI. A single from
Avery Boley to the right side would register an RBI, as
Ciana Rodriguez ran home to close the bottom of the first with two runs, two hits, and one error.
Eager to add more runs to the board, the Pioneers scored an additional two runs in the bottom of the third. LeBlanc singled to short stop and advanced to second after a bunt from
Tylar Lane.
Then,
Avery Boley stepped up to the plate and hit a home run for her second RBI of the night to bring LeBlanc home.
Defensively, the Pioneers protected their home with 21 putouts. Leading the Pioneers was catcher
Delaney Boley with 11 putouts on the night.
"Cameron is a tough competitor, they played hard all seven innings, but we never let up", Head Coach
Gay McNutt said. "Right now, we need to do a better job of scoring runs when we have runners in a position to score."
The series continues as the Pioneers battle the Aggies in game two and three tomorrow, March 4 beginning at 1 p.m. at Dianne Baker Field.
