PIONEERS DEFEAT OC; EAGLES HELD SCORELESS IN GAME ONE OF LSC ACTION

DENTON, Texas (April 5, 2023) – Texas Woman's (20-19, 12-16) softball picks off Oklahoma Christian (24-13, 19-12) in game one of Lone Star Conference three-game series Wednesday night, to leave the Eagles scoreless 3-0.

The Pioneers defended Dianne Baker Field and recorded their twelfth home win of the season. In an exciting fifth inning, the Pioneers scored three runs to kick off the series against the Eagles.

Kennedy Marlow was the first Pioneer to begin the scoring sequence. Marlow squeezed a single pass the Eagles pitcher to land on first and then stole second shortly after. The LSC is talking, and big hitter Alyssa LeBlanc (13-8) has been a force to be reckoned with so much that the Eagles walked LeBlanc to first, leaving Marlow on second.

Tylar Lane was up to bat for the Pioneers a broke the scoring freeze with a double to center field for the RBI. Marlow scored and LeBlanc advanced to third for the 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers had the Eagles right where they wanted them. Second to score for the Pioneers was LeBlanc after Ciana Rodriguez sent a fly ball to infield and registered an RBI for the night.

With Lane on third, Avery Boley was the next to bat and was prepared to bring it home for the Pioneers. After one ball and one strike Avery Boley singled to first base, while Lane scored the final run of the night.

LeBlanc was the opening pitcher in tonight's matchup. In seven innings of work the junior pitcher allowed four hits, walked three and struck out four batters on the night.

Defensively, the Pioneers recorded 21 putouts. Leading the charge was catcher Delaney Boley with five, followed by Ciana Rodriguez for a total of four. Avery Boley, Alexys Ginegaw, and Marlow each recorded three putouts to prevent the Eagles from scoring.

The Pioneers return to Dianne Baker Field Thursday, April 6 beginning at 1 p.m. in an afternoon double header.
