PIONEERS PREPARE FOR SATURDAY MEETING WITH OC

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 3, 2024) – After an exciting win in Kitty Magee Arena on Thursday afternoon, the Texas Woman's basketball team will look to follow-up with another win in KMA on Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Christian. 

TWU (11-3, 5-1) will meet OC (2-8, 1-5) in KMA on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. Most recently, the Pioneers defeated UAFS by 18, 77-59. The Eagles faced UT Tyler on Thursday, Jan. 4 and fell in a narrow contest, 67-65. 

The Pioneers will look to record their sixth LSC win of the 2023-24 season on Saturday afternoon.

TRIPLE THREAT

  • STEP BACK: The Pioneers and Eagles have met eight times over the course of program history. TWU owns the all-time record with six wins, and the Pioneers have the past four meetings with OC. Against the Eagles, the Pioneers average 70.88 points and are 3-1 all-time in KMA. Last season, TWU defeated OC twice - on the road and at home. The Pioneers met the Eagles in KMA on Jan. 26, 2023 and won the meeting, 73-56. In the win, four returning Pioneers scored in double digits — Ashley Ingram (12), Scout Huffman (11), Leila Patel (11) and Ariyanna Hines (10). 
  • DEFENSE LOCKDOWN: The Pioneers currently rank fourth in the LSC in defense, holding their opponent to 61 points per game on average. OC currently scores 66.7 points per game. Additionally, on defense, TWU holds their opponents to shooting 38.1% from the field on average, which ranks fifth in the LSC. The Eagles rank 12th overall in the LSC in team field goal percentage, averaging 39% from the field. On the offensive end, the Pioneers ranks third in the LSC in team field goal percentage, shooting 43.6% from the field per game. 
  • LEADERS: Currently, two Eagles average double-digit points per game. Leading OC is senior guard No. 12 Brooklin Bain, who averages 14.2 points per game. Graduate student guard No. 4 Asiyha Smith averages 11.8 points per game. Bain is shooting 43% from the field, and Smith is averaging 35% from the field. For the Pioneers, Ashley Ingram, Leila Patel and Jada Celsur all average double-digits. Ingram leads the Pioneers, averaging 18.1 points per game and shooting 64.1% from the field. Patel averages 12.9 points, and Celsur is scoring 10.6 points per game.
