DENTON, Texas (Nov. 19, 2024) – On Tuesday, the Texas Woman's Athletic Department welcomed Dr. Darlene Moore as TWU's Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academic Services.
"I am elated for the opportunity to join the Texas Woman's University family," Dr. Moore said. "I would like to thank the Executive Director of Athletics Sandee Mott for affording me the opportunity to work for such a stellar athletic department and progressive university. Being a Division II administrator and a former Division II student-athlete, I feel this experience will aid me in assisting TWU to soar to new heights. I look forward to working with our athletic staff and our student-athletes as they continue their athletic and academic careers at TWU. Go Pioneers!"
Dr. Moore brings extended experience in compliance roles at the Division II level and additionally served as a championship-winning Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at the Division II and Division I levels.
"Dr. Moore brings a wealth of experience to our leadership team," said TWU Executive Director of Athletics Sandee Mott. "Her experience in all facets of athletics, to include coaching, compliance, student success, and other leadership roles at NCAA Division II institutions stood out as we looked for someone to fill this critically important role. I am excited to have her join our department and know that she will be a tremendous asset."
Most recently, Dr. Moore served as the Interim Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance and Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Hawaii Pacific University. During her time at HPU, Dr. Moore oversaw the compliance department and worked to streamline the processes at HPU to better serve the department and student-athletes. She also worked to maintain the daily operation of compliance responsibilities, such as delivering rules, submitting reports and developing clear policies and procedures. In her role as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Dr. Moore worked alongside the university's Title IX Coordinator to ensure a safe environment for everyone at HPU.
Prior to her time with HPU, Dr. Moore worked for three years at her alma mater, Albany State University. While at Albany State, she began working in an administrative role as the Special Assistant to the Athletic Director. During her time in this role, she oversaw compliance rules education programming, recruiting documents and NCAA Portal for Coaches Learning Modules. Additionally, she assisted with Athletic Certifications and the ASU Athletics Golf Classic.
After briefly serving as the Special Assistant to the Athletic Director, Dr. Moore was promoted to the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator. In this role, she served as a sports administrator for eight intercollegiate athletic sports. She also served on the NCAA Division II Cross Country Committee and was elected as the Incoming President in July 2023. During her time at ASU, she led the compliance department, which served over 300 student-athletes. Along with maintaining compliance requirements, Dr. Moore also oversaw an athletics' academic program for 11 intercollegiate athletic sports, which included advising, tutoring referrals, academic alerts and monitoring degree progress for coaches. Her oversight resulted in an athletic departmental grade point average of 3.00 or higher during her time at ASU. Dr. Moore also spearheaded new compliance, departmental and game operations policies and procedures for ASU.
Additionally, while at ASU, Dr. Moore oversaw student welfare support and additionally managed fiscal affairs for scholarship budgets. During her time at ASU, she successfully completed an NCAA Report, which saw ASU removed from probation status. She served as a liaison with university partners and personnel to ensure the total successful experience for all student-athletes. Additionally, she partnered with the Student Affairs Department and Campus Counseling Service to provide opportunities for athletes to attend lecture series for life skills and self-enrichment. In her role, she assisted in department fundraising efforts and community events. Dr. Moore also advised the ASU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Outside of academic and compliance duties, Dr. Moore assisted with game day operation and event management and oversaw over 40 athletic student workers.
Prior to working at Albany State in administrative roles, Dr. Moore worked as a Track and Field and Cross Country Coach. She began her collegiate coaching career as the Head Men and Women Track and Field and Cross Country coach at Fort Valley State, where she coached from 1998-2004. During her time with the Wildcats, she was a three-time Division II South Region Coach of the Year, a four-time Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Track and Field and Cross Country Coach of the Year and a three-time Fort Valley State Coach of the Year. She was named the National Female Track and Field Coach of the Year by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports in 2002. Also in 2002, Dr. Moore was named the Georgia Female College Coach of the Year by the Georgia Women Intersport Network.
She coached the Wildcats to four SIAC Track and Field Championship Titles, two SIAC Track and Field Runner-Up Titles, four SIAC Cross Country Championship Titles (team and individual). She coached 71 SIAC Conference Champions and 15 NCAA Division II All-Americans. She additionally led the men's program to two SIAC Cross Country Runner-Up finishes and a third place team finish at the SIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2001.
After leaving Fort Valley State, Dr. Moore served as the Assistant Men and Women Track and Field and Cross Country Coach at Albany State for three years. She then transitioned to being the Head Men and Women Track and Field and Cross Country Coach at Division I Florida A&M from 2009-19. She also served as the Senior Women's Administrator from 2017-19.
During her time with the Rattlers, she was a seven-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Coach of the Year, a three-time MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year and the HBCU Digest National Female Coach of the Year in 2015.
She led the women's programs to seven MEAC Cross Country Championship Titles and three MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship Titles. Dr. Moore coached two MEAC Cross Country Individual Champions, two MEAC Indoor Track Outstanding Performers, three MEAC Outdoor Field Outstanding Performers. Additionally, she coached 31 MEAC Individual Conference Champions. She coached the men's cross country program to their highest regional ranking in program history at number six in 2018. During that season, she also coached the team to an undefeated season. Dr. Moore coached the 2017 MEAC Cross Country Individual Champion, an All-Region Runner and Region Qualifiers.
Through all her roles, Dr. Moore has emphasized the total well-being of student-athletes and prioritizes a holistic approach to student-athlete success.
Dr. Moore is a member of the Albany State Athletic Hall of Fame, the Fort Valley State Athletic Hall of Fame and the Florida A&M Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dr. Moore has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Albany State, a Master of Education degree in Health and Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern State University, a Specialist of Education in Teacher Leadership from Walden University and a Doctorate of Education in Teacher Leadership from Walden.
While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Dr. Moore rank track and cross country at Albany State. She was an all-conference honoree in track and cross country, and she also held the record for the 400m dash. Dr. Moore is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
