DENTON, Texas (Nov. 8, 2024) - The Texas Woman's volleyball team takes on two opponents this weekend.

Following 11 consecutive wins, the Pioneers (18-5, 11-2) hope to keep this momentum up going into these next two match-ups.

TWU is set to play UT Dallas (8-9) on Friday, Nov. 8 and Midwestern State (13-13, 5-8) on Saturday, Nov. 9. The match on Friday will represent a nonconference contest, as the Comets are set to join the Lone Star Conference next year.

On Wednesday of this week, TWU defeated Dallas Baptist by winning three out of five sets; similarly, while MSU played on the sixth as well, they fell to UT Tyler after three sets. In a similar fashion on Nov. 1, UTD was defeated by Southeastern Oklahoma State following three sets.

TAKING OVER THIS WEEKEND
  • A LOOK AT THE COMETS: In UTD's last match up on Nov. 1, UTD stood their ground and took one set off of Southeastern Oklahoma State, as they closed out the match with 50 kills, five aces, and 95 digs. They also hit .108 during the match-up. As UTD wraps up their 2024 volleyball season in their match against the Pioneers, the Lone Star Conference announced during July that the Comets will be joining the LSC on July 1, 2025, making them transition out of the NCAA Division III.
  • A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS: MSU currently ranks tenth in the LSC as they also rank sixth in digs and eighth in assists. They have a hitting percentage of .199 and average 1.66 in blocks. The Pioneers and the Mustangs have a pretty extensive history as they embark on their 60th match together on Saturday. As TWU has won 42 of the 59 matches that have been played, the Pioneers seem to have an advantage over the opposing team.
  • A LOOK AT THE PIONEERS: The Pioneers last match best illustrated how consistent the team has been in these last 11 games. TWU currently ranks fourth in the LSC, and ranks third in kills with a hitting percentage of .244. In the match against DBU, outside hitter Malia Viernes recorded a career high with 18 digs. The willpower of Viernes combined with the adaptability of the Pioneers as a whole will be a key element in securing the win.
