PIONEERS LOSE GAME THREE AGAINST WT

CANYON, Texas (March 3, 2024) – On Sunday afternoon, the Texas Woman's softball team dropped the final game in the series against West Texas A&M.

TWU (11-11, 9-6) fell in five innings, 8-0, against WT (20-1, 12-0) on the road on Sunday.

The Pioneers started off strong with two players in scoring position in the top of the first inning. Callie Bailey drew a walk in her first at-bat. Then, Ciana Rodriguez hit a single down the left line to advance Bailey to second. Bailey and Rodriguez took advantage of a wild pitch by WT to advance to second and third, but TWU was unable to capitalize and bring the runners home.

This marked Rodriguez's 10th game with at least one hit.

Alyssa LeBlanc (5-4), who started in the circle for the Pioneers, quickly shut down the Lady Buffs in the bottom of the first. LeBlanc opened the inning with a strikeout, and the next two batters flied out, as the Pioneers recorded three straight outs to get back on offense.

While TWU was unable to gain the momentum in the top of the second inning, WT connected on three hits and scored three runs to take the 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

The Lady Buffs would add two more runs in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 5-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, TWU looked to answer WT. LeBlanc ignited the flame with a double to right field to lead off the inning, marking her 10th game with one or more hits. With LeBlanc on second, Delaney Boley hit a single to advance LeBlanc to third, but then two straight outs retired the inning for TWU.

Boley's single marked her 11th game with one or more hits.

LeBlanc faced three batters in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Jaycie Hall stepped in to pitch for the Pioneers. LeBlanc finished the day with three strikeouts, and Hall recorded one.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, WT would score three more runs take the 8-0 lead. The Pioneers looked to extend the game in the top of the fifth inning but were unable to get a run on the board.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 6 at home in a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. against Rogers State.
