PIONEERS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO NO.3 ROGERS STATE

DENTON, Texas (March 6, 2024) – The Texas Woman's softball team fell to No. 3 Rogers State in a midweek non conference double-header.

Despite dropping the games against the Hillcats, TWU (11-3, 9-6) had great moments during both games against RSU (16-4).

After a scoreless first inning to start off, the Hillcats took the lead on the top of the second inning by scoring three runs. The game continued 3-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Pioneers added three runs to tie up the game.

Ciana Rodriguez got to second base after a double to left center. After Rodriguez's double, Alyssa LeBlanc drew a walk and the bases were full for the Pioneers. Tyler Lane reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second while recording an RBI and advancing Rodriguez to home base.

With Lane and LaBlanc on bases, Makana Morton singled to center field (2RBI) and both players on base scored runs for the Pioneers, who tied the game 3-3.

The last runs of the game came from the Hillcats on the top of the sixth inning. An error from the Pioneer's center field and a triple from Chelsea Spain, RSU, gave Rogers State the 6-3 win over the Pioneers.

Alyssa LeBlanc (5-5) started on the mound for the Pioneers and pitched the entire first game. LeBlanc took the loss while striking out eight Hillcats.

For the second game of the afternoon and after almost four scoreless innings, the Pioneers took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Vivica Hernandez opened up batting for the Pioneers and recording a double down the left line. Then, Callie Bailey advanced Hernandez to third base.

Rodriguez, who scored on the first game, singled to right center and collected an RBI while pushing Hernandez to scoring base.

The Hillcats responded quickly in the top of the fifth inning and took the 2-1 lead after a home run from Bridgett Morales to left field.

Roget State added a last run on the top of the seventh for the final 3-1 that gave the Hillcats the second win of the afternoon over the Pioneers.

Jaycie Hall (2-4) pitched the entire second game for TWU and took the loss against RSU.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, March 8 at home in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. against UTPB.
