HOILAND CLAIMS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNER-UP TO HEADLINE PIONEERS INDIVIDUAL EVENT FINALS

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 14, 2024) – The Texas Woman's gymnastics team officially closed the 2024 season this afternoon.

Five Pioneers competed in the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship Individual Event Finals on Sunday afternoon.

Kaitlyn Hoiland and Sophia Isbell both competed on vault. Emily Six competed on beam. On the uneven bars, Brooke Ferrari and Kami Zarlengo both qualified and competed.

As qualifiers for the Individual Event Finals, all five Pioneers were named USAG First Team All-Americans in their respective events. Additionally, for their placement on events during the semifinal session, four Pioneers earned Second Team All-America honors. Emma Brkljacic and Steelie King were both named Second Team All-Americans on vault. On bars, Hoiland earned Second Team All-America honors. Sophie Hernandez closed her freshman season as a Second Team All-American on beam.

During the event finals day, the Pioneers shone brightly in every routine.

First, on vault, Kaitlyn Hoiland climbed the podium with a National Championship Runner-Up finish. Hoiland excelled in her first season at TWU, and she capped it off with a strong 9.825 on vault. At the conclusion of the competition, Hoiland was also awarded the USAG Outstanding Senior Award for her high scores throughout the weekend.

Both Pioneers climbed the podium and received medals on vault. Sophia Isbell closed her freshman campaign with some hardware, as she placed sixth on vault with a 9.775.

The balance beam held a special moment for Emily Six, as she performed her final routine in a Pioneers leo. All smiles and joy, Six hit her landing and cheered excitedly, scoring a 9.6125.

The Pioneers sophomore duo on the uneven bars brought the energy and closed the season in an exciting fashion. Brooke Ferrari, no stranger to Individual Event Finals after qualifying last year, hit her landing and danced to the cheers of the Pioneers – she scored a 9.7625. Kami Zarlengo excelled in her first event finals. She pointed to the sky and cheered loudly after hitting her routine, closing the season with a 9.800 for TWU. Zarlengo finished tied for seventh on the uneven bars.

"I am could not be more proud of this team," TWU Head Coach Lisa Bowerman said. "They confidently stepped into this final day with complete joy for the opportunity and grateful for each moment this season. I am so thankful for each and every one of them."
