TWU READY FOR MEETING WITH JAVELINAS ON THURSDAY

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 16, 2025) – The Texas Woman's basketball team prepares for a Thursday night meeting with Texas A&M – Kingsville on the road.

TWU (15-1, 8-1) will meet TAMUK (10-5, 6-3) for the first time this season.

The Javelinas are currently undefeated in East Division play with wins over St. Mary's, St. Edward's, Cameron, Oklahoma Christian and Texas A&M International. The Pioneers have one loss in divisional play to UT Tyler.

Last week, TWU went 2-0 at home in KMA, defeating St. Mary's and St. Edward's. On the other side, TAMUK beat Cameron and Oklahoma Christian at home.

MEETING WITH JAVELINAS
  • BATTLE OF THE OFFENSES: The Pioneers and the Javelinas hold the No. 1 and No. 2 spot in the Lone Star Conference in team field goal percentage. TWU ranks first in team field goal percentage, averaging 44.2% from the field. TAMUK ranks second in team field goal percentage, shooting 43.5 from the field. The Pioneers have two individuals who rank in the top ten in the LSC in field goal percentage. Scout Huffman ranks No. 1, averaging 56.9% from the field, while Ashley Ingram ranks eighth – shooting 48.1% from the field.
  • STRONG DEFENSE MATCH-UP: While both teams shoot well from the field, they also rank in the top five in defense in the LSC. On average, TWU holds their opponents to just 51.5 points per game, which ranks second in the LSC. The Javelinas hold their opponents to 53.7 points per game – fourth in the LSC.
  • HISTORY: TWU is 36-32 all-time against TAMUK, as this will mark the 69th meeting between the two teams. The Pioneers have won the last six meetings, and they are 16-17 on the road and an even 30-30 in LSC meetings. In their last meeting in Kingsville on Feb. 17, 2024, the Pioneers claimed the victory 62-59. Ingram led the way for TWU with 28 points in the win.
