PIONEERS SPLIT WITH RAMBELLES IN HOME OPENER DOUBLEHEADER

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 23, 2025) – The Texas Woman's University softball team pulled off an upset Saturday at Dianne Baker Field, defeating No. 5-ranked Angelo State, 5-4, in game two after suffering a 10-0 shutout loss in the opener. TWU (8-2, 4-2) split the doubleheader with the Rambelles, marking their first win over a top-5 opponent since defeating Augustana, 9-6, on Feb. 28, 2021, at the DII Spring Invitational Kickoff in Tyler, Texas.

Angelo State started the doubleheader strong, asserting dominance in game one by scoring in five of the six innings played. The Rambelles' solid sixth inning, combined with a well-rounded effort, made it difficult for Texas Woman's to mount a comeback.

The Pioneers quickly bounced back in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, which helped build momentum early. A four-run fifth inning erased a 3-1 deficit and gave TWU the 5-4 victory, securing their first home win of the season.
