DENTON, Texas (Feb. 24, 2025) – The Texas Woman's University softball team wrapped up their home weekend at Dianne Baker Field with a doubleheader against No. 23-ranked Lubbock Christian on Monday afternoon, splitting the games to cap off the weekend. TWU (9-3, 5-3) defeated the Lady Chaps (13-5, 4-4) 4-1 in game one, marking their second straight series win against a top-25 opponent. However, they fell 11-1 in game two to split the doubleheader.
In game one, the Pioneers managed to contain an early run by LCU with a flurry of hits in the sixth inning, which allowed TWU to storm back for the 4-1 victory. A two-run home run by Malarie Medina capped off the comeback and provided the Pioneers with a much needed boost heading into game two.
Game two saw Lubbock Christian take control, both offensively and defensively to secure an 11-1 win.

Lizzie Smith put the Pioneers on the board in the sixth inning with an RBI single that scored Marissa Espinoza, tying the game at 1-1.

In the next at-bat, Hawwa Townsend added an RBI double to bring home Smith and give TWU a 2-1 lead.

Medina's two RBI home run gave the Pioneers a comfortable cushion heading into the seventh inning.

In the final frame, Crawford and the Pioneer defense sealed the win with three straight outs, two of which came strikeouts, to close out the Lady Chaps with a 4-1 victory.
Next Up
TWU will hit the road for their next two series, facing Midwestern State and No. 8 West Texas A&M on Friday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 2. Both doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
