PIONEERS RALLY LATE BUT FALL SHORT IN BOTH GAMES AGAINST HILLTOPPERS

AUSTIN, Texas (March 29, 2025) – The Texas Woman's softball team battled through a tough doubleheader against St. Edward's at Diane Daniels Field, showing resilience despite falling short in both games. The Pioneers (15-17, 11-15) narrowly lost 4-3 in the opener and 5-2 in the second contest against the Hilltoppers (21-15, 15-11).

In game one, TWU struck first when Lauryn Davies drove in Riley Todd with a single in the fourth inning. St. Edward's responded with a two-run double in the bottom half and added another run to take a 3-1 lead. The Pioneers chipped away, with Malarie Medina drawing an RBI walk in the fifth and later delivering an RBI double to center in the seventh. However, the Hilltoppers held on for the win.

In Game 2, the Hilltoppers capitalized on defensive miscues, scoring five runs in the third inning, including an RBI single and three unearned runs. The Pioneers fought back with a run in the fifth, as Marissa Espinoza grounded out to score Madison Altman. Espinoza drove in another run in the seventh  as she reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Hawwa Townsend to score. Despite their efforts, TWU couldn't erase the early deficit.
